Abstract
Geriatric patients are patients of a separate category of the population that require a special approach. The geriatric direction in pharmaceutical activity has acquired a new significance: thanks to the growth of technological advances, life in economically developed countries is becoming more comfortable, which has led to an increase in life expectancy. Meanwhile, this raised the issue of improving the quality of care for elderly patients at all stages of the healthcare system. To address this issue, it seems vital to develop new approaches in the organization of healthcare and pharmaceutical activities. To this end, Russia has created a clear understanding of the state policy in the domain of geriatrics, where substantial significance is attached to pharmaceutical care.
A pharmacy organization in the prevailing financial circumstances of Russia is not only a social institution, but also a commercial one, so it has a variety of functions, which has reflected the importance of pharmaceutical consulting not so much for prescription sales of pharmacy products as for over-the-counter sales. Of course, the legislator is encountered with a difficult task of forming the legal framework for consulting activities of a pharmacy organization. This review of the legislative activity of state authorities in the arena of pharmaceutical support for the elderly population shows the current state of regulatory regulation in this area.
